Mixed Choir
Liturgical Music
Missa Omnium Sanctorum (2015)
for SATB choir and organ
Text: Latin Catholic Liturgy
Duration: 7 minutes
Difficulty: 2/4
First performed in London, UK by the Choir of Our Most Holy Redeemer & St Thomas More, Chelsea (Ian Gilbert Coleman, dir.) in May 2022, as part of the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music.
This brief mass setting was originally written for Jeremy Spurgeon and the Choir of All Saints Anglican Cathedral in Edmonton, Canada. Since this particular choir has always had plenty of Renaissance music in their repertoire, I chose to blend homophonic writing with moments of polyphony and a distinctly-modern harmonic language. The music is in three movements: Kyrie, Sanctus-Benedictus, and Agnus Dei. (The standard Gloria and Credo are omitted from this setting.)
